Frequently Asked Questions

View our most common questions. For further help, fill in our form, email admin@enhancedlifeot.com.au or call 0493 772 088.

❓

Who is the program designed for?

Thrive 4 School is designed for children preparing to transition to Kindergarten in 2027 or 2028.

We're also happy to welcome children who are currently in Kindergarten and may need additional support to work on skills for meaningful participation at school.

The program supports children to become more familiar and confident with many of the skills, routines and expectations they are likely to encounter when they start school.

❓

Does my child need to be receiving Occupational Therapy or Speech Pathology to attend?

No. Children do not need to be an existing Enhanced Life client or currently receiving therapy to participate.

The program is designed for children with a range of strengths and support needs who would benefit from additional opportunities to build their confidence and foundational school readiness skills.

❓

What makes Thrive 4 School a therapeutic school readiness program?

Thrive 4 School is more than a traditional school readiness class.

The program has been designed by Paediatric Occupational Therapists and Speech Pathologists, with activities intentionally selected to support children's functional participation across the areas that matter when starting school.

Our therapists consider areas including regulation, sensory processing, communication, language, fine motor development, executive functioning, independence, social participation, transitions and confidence β€” all while keeping the experience engaging, playful and child-centred.

❓

What happens during the program?

Our Paediatric Occupational Therapists and Speech Pathologists will support your child to participate in a variety of structured and play-based school readiness activities across the two half-days.

Activities will involve group participation, following multi-step instructions, fine motor and pre-writing tasks, communication and language activities, movement and regulation opportunities, early literacy experiences, social interaction, problem-solving and practising everyday school routines.

The aim is to introduce and practise these skills in a safe, engaging and supportive environment before children encounter them within the school setting.

❓

What does my child need to bring?

We recommend children attend in comfortable clothing and bring a water bottle.

All program materials, therapeutic equipment and organic snacks are provided.

Please let our team know prior to attending about any allergies, dietary requirements or other important support needs.

❓

What if my child needs additional support to participate in a group?

We understand that every child participates differently and cater to all abilities.

If your child has particular communication, sensory, regulation, behavioural, medical or participation needs that may affect their involvement in the group, please let our team know when registering.

This allows our therapists to consider how we can best support your child and if additional support will be needed for your child to get the most out of the program.

❓

How do I know if Thrive 4 School is right for my child?

If you are unsure whether the program would suit your child, our Enhanced Life team is happy to help.

Contact our administration team with any general questions or to secure a place. If your question relates specifically to your child's clinical or developmental needs, our team can arrange for an appropriate therapist to provide further guidance.

❓

Why does my child need a 30-minute goal review before the program?

The 30-minute Telehealth goal review is completed with a parent or carer only, so your child does not need to be present. It gives our therapist the opportunity to learn more about your child’s strengths, current needs and school readiness priorities before the program begins.

Together, we identify individual goals for your child to work towards during Thrive 4 School. These goals help guide how our therapists support, adapt and individualise activities for your child across the two-day program.

❓

Will I receive a report about my child’s goals after the program?

A (1-hour) post-program report is optional, but highly recommended. We have made this an optional extra to help families manage costs while still offering a more detailed summary for those who would find it valuable.

The report includes your child’s progress towards their individual goals, relevant therapist observations and practical strategies to continue supporting their school readiness at home, preschool and as they transition into school.

❓

Why are Occupational Therapy and Speech Pathology important when preparing my child for school?

Starting school involves much more than being able to recognise letters, write their name or count numbers. Children are expected to manage a busy new environment, follow classroom routines, communicate their needs, interact with peers, listen to and understand instructions, regulate their emotions and bodies, transition between activities and become increasingly independent throughout the school day.

Occupational Therapists support the functional skills children need to participate successfully at school, including fine motor and handwriting foundations, independence with everyday routines, sensory processing, emotional regulation, attention, executive functioning, transitions and participation in classroom and playground activities.

Speech Pathologists support the communication skills children rely on throughout every part of their school day, including understanding and following instructions, expressing their thoughts and needs, speech clarity, receptive and expressive language, social communication, phonological awareness and early literacy foundations.

By bringing Occupational Therapy and Speech Pathology together, Enhanced Life's Thrive 4 School takes a holistic approach to school readiness β€” supporting not just what children need to learn at school, but the foundational skills they need to participate, communicate, connect and feel confident when they get there.
